About Hilma af Klint
About Hilma af Klint
Hilma af Klint (1862–1944) was a pioneering Swedish artist and one of the earliest figures in abstract art. Known for her visionary paintings, she developed a distinctive artistic style featuring geometric shapes, vibrant colours, botanical forms, and symbolic patterns. Her groundbreaking work explored spirituality, nature, science, and the mysteries of the universe, challenging traditional artistic conventions long before abstract art became widely recognised.
Inspired by spiritual beliefs and the natural world, af Klint created intricate compositions filled with circles, spirals, and harmonious colour combinations. Her celebrated series, The Paintings for the Temple, remains one of her most significant artistic achievements. Although much of her work remained unseen during her lifetime, Hilma af Klint is now internationally recognised as a pioneer of modern abstract painting, with her remarkable artwork exhibited in leading museums and galleries worldwide.
